Brother Zachary Parkins was born in Houston Texas and lived in the area through high school. Brother Parkins began fencing at the age of 13, and was recruited by various schools throughout the country in his junior and senior years of high school. Ohio State had a reputation of being one of the best fencing programs in the country and Brother Parkins was in contact with the coaching staff throughout 2000 and 2001, and Brother Parkins was accepted to The Ohio State University on Christmas Eve Day 2001.
Brother Parkins joined the Alpha Sigma Colony of Ohio state as a member of the initial pledge class. His interest stemmed from the invitation of friends (particularly Brothers Troy Judy, Matthew Charnas and Matthew Cooke) prior to his appreciation of the Kappa Sigma order. Those soon-to-be brothers became residents of the chapter house at 1842 Indianola Avenue, which re-opened its doors in fall 2004, and Brother Parkins was initiated with the rechartering class on October 2, 2004.
Brother Parkins was a student athlete from his first day at Ohio State. Brother Parkins was a four-time scholar athlete, earned academic three time all B1G honors, was a member of four Midwest conference championship teams, and was a member on Ohio State’s 2003-2004 national championship team.
Serving on the Alpha Sigma executive committee as Grand Procurator from 2004-2006 culminated in Brother Parkins becoming its Grand Master in 2006. His year of service was a steppingstone to earning a BS degree in economics from Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business. In 2009, after working for three years, Brother Parkins enrolled in law school and received his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 2012.
Skills in the fields of economics, financial discovery and fraud analysis, paired with his legal abilities, Brother Parkins has applied himself to several well-respected business operations. He was a Senior Vice President at Mesirow Financial Consulting in New York City and Miami, Duff & Phelps (Washington D.C.) and a Director at GlassRatner in Dallas, Texas. Since 2021, Brother Parkins has worked as a Senior Manager in the Corporate Finance and Restructuring group at Armanino in Dallas, Texas where he makes his home.
Brother Parkins has maintained a strong connection with Kappa Sigma. During, and for a time after, law school graduation, Brother Parkins served as an Alumnus Advisor to the Epsilon-Beta chapter of Kappa Sigma at the University of Miami. He also served as Alumni Advisor at the Alpha-Alpha Chapter at the University of Maryland while he was living in Washington DC. He was elected to the Alpha-Sigma of Kappa Sigma Education Foundation Board of Directors in the year 2018 and became its treasurer from 2018 – 2020. He then served four more years as a member of the Board, while also dedicating his time to being the chairman of the OSU Kappa Sigma Hall of Fame for a three-year timeframe.
