Tad Coleman '66

Tad Coleman exemplifies the lifelong commitment to leadership, professional excellence, and service that defines the highest ideals of the Alpha-Sigma Chapter of Kappa Sigma. From his undergraduate years through an accomplished business career and decades of civic leadership, he has consistently demonstrated the values of integrity, responsibility, and community engagement.

As an undergraduate member of Alpha-Sigma chapter, Tad served as a Guard (Sergeant-at-Arms) and was an active member of its Rush Committee, helping strengthen the chapter through recruitment and member engagement. Among his fellow brothers, he was affectionately known as the unofficial "Coffee Chairman," gathering members at The Huddle House, where friendships were strengthened and lifelong bonds were formed. And it was in 1969 Tad married his Kappa Sigma sweetheart, Jan Post, who remains steadfast in staying in touch with the large and impactful ‘Sixties’ brotherhood with Tad.

Following graduation, Tad built a distinguished career in manufacturing and executive leadership. He held management positions with Owens-Illinois, serving in Chicago before advancing to district manager in Cincinnati and later regional director in New Jersey. He ultimately became Chief Executive Officer and Co-Owner of Standard Welding and Steel Products in Medina, Ohio, where his leadership contributed to the company's continued success and reputation within the industry. Nowadays, Tad’s sons Chris and Jack are running the business while Tad’s daughter, Kellie is acting as corporate secretary.

Tad has also devoted extraordinary effort to improving the quality of life in his community through decades of volunteer leadership. He served for 28 years on the board of Medina Community Hospital, including 13 years as Board Chairman. During his tenure, he played a leading role in guiding the hospital through its landmark merger with the Cleveland Clinic, helping ensure the continued delivery of outstanding healthcare for generations of Northeast Ohio families.

Tad’s commitment to civic and economic development extends well beyond healthcare. Tad served as the long-tenured Board Chairman of the Industrial Council of the Medina Chamber of Commerce, promoting business growth and regional economic development. His long-term commitment resulted in Tad being inducted into the Medina Chamber’s Hall of Fame, a very select group of community contributors. Tad has also served on the boards of The Lance Companies and Old Phoenix Bank, contributing his experience and leadership to organizations dedicated to serving the financial and business needs of families and communities throughout Northeast Ohio.

Tad's dedication to Alpha-Sigma has remained steadfast throughout his alumni years. From 2014 through 2020, he was a valued contributor to the Ohio State Kappa Sigma Capital Campaign, helping preserve and strengthen the chapter's future through generous support and enduring commitment.

The Alpha-Sigma Chapter proudly recognizes Tad Coleman as a member of its Hall of Honor for a lifetime distinguished by exceptional leadership, professional achievement, unwavering service to his community, and enduring devotion to the Brotherhood of Kappa Sigma.
