Ralph Nusken's journey has been defined by family, service, education, and a strong sense of brotherhood. He was initiated in 1952 through the Epsilon-Rho chapter of Kappa Sigma at Kent State University, where he spent two years. It was after 2 years, Brother Nusken volunteered for a 2-year tour with the US military. His commitment to his country led him to complete his military service in 1956, after which he enrolled at The Ohio State University to further his education.
Brother Nusken thrived as a member of the Alpha-Sigma chapter, serving as its chapter GM in 1957. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1958, demonstrating his passion for learning and commitment to academic excellence. Ralph also earned Master of Arts degree in American history in 1960.
Following this education, Brother Nusken began a career in teaching. In pursuit of further growth, he attended night law school at Capital University and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1970. His legal expertise and dedication to public service led him to become a staff member of Governor John Gilligan. Brother Nusken's desire to make a positive impact on his community then gave rise to service with the Ohio Public Utilities Commission (PUCO), where he served as its Secretary.
A deep commitment to the fraternity happened when he became heavily involved in Alpha-Sigma’s Alumni Association. Brother Nusken was a member of an Alumni Board of Control helping to guide a struggling 70’s chapter into the 1980s. He soon joined the Kappa Sigma House Company, where he served terms as both its Secretary and President.
Brother Nusken played a vital role in the fraternity's recent capital campaign. His efforts and contributions demonstrated his belief in Kappa Sigma's mission and the importance of supporting future generations of brothers.
Brother Nusken has been happily married to his wife Julie for 64 years and is the proud father of three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, showcasing the values of family and love that he cherishes.
