Ken Holcomb '78

Brother Ken Holcomb will always be remembered as a Brother who carried a strong commitment to his fraternity, community, and his Alma Mater, The Ohio State University. He played a vital role in the rebuilding of Alpha-Sigma chapter during a crucial start-up period that began in 1977 - 1978. He left a lasting impact. Ken's involvement in Alpha-Sigma chapter was as the Pledge Education chair, where he mentored and guided new members.

During his time at The Ohio State University, Brother Holcomb immersed himself in various extracurricular activities. He spent five years as the Ohio State men's varsity basketball manager, contributing to the team's success. Additionally, he was an active member of the OSU Men's Glee Club, showcasing his musical talents and bringing joy through many harmonious performances.

Ken's connection to Alpha-Sigma runs deep within his family. He is the grandson of House Mom Jane Wiese, who is a member of the Hall of Fame class of 2023. Ken’s brother, Bruce Holcomb, who also became a member through Alpha-Sigma chapter. Finally, James H. Holcomb who is the father of Ken and Bruce deserves mention. James worked throughout the 80s on the chapter house fix-it crew. A special initiation was held for James which capped of his one-time pledging in the 50s.

Brother Holcomb honed his professional skills by working and training alongside Brother Wayne Rickert at Rickert Property Management. This resulted in Ken’s extensive involvement in overseeing the Alpha-Sigma chapter property, generally overseeing connections with fire, water, and the City of Columbus. His attention to detail and commitment to passing annual house inspections have ensured the safety and compliance of the fraternity house for nearly two decades.

In 2014-15, he became a Kappa Sigma House Company trustee. He continued his dedication by becoming a trustee and assuming the administrative duties as one of the primary project directors for the capital campaign.

Ken's dedication to his fraternity extended beyond his college years. He joined The Ohio State University's men's glee club alumni association in the 2020s. Brother Holcomb can also be found seated at nearly every home OSU basketball game, a love which started in his days as the varsity basketball team manager.

Ken Holcomb's bio is a testament to his unwavering dedication to Alpha-Sigma, his commitment to his family, and his contribution to the fraternity's ongoing success. His multifaceted roles as a leader, mentor, and trustee have left an indelible mark on the fraternity and the community it serves.
