John Hileman's lifelong commitment to the Alpha-Sigma chapter of Kappa Sigma reflects the enduring values of leadership, service, loyalty, and brotherhood. A legacy member whose father and uncle were both initiated into the Alpha-Sigma Chapter at The Ohio State University, John embraced the fraternity's traditions while creating a distinguished legacy of his own. His induction into the 2026 Kappa Sigma Hall of Honor recognizes decades of steadfast dedication to the chapter and the men who have followed him.
As an undergraduate, John served as Vice President Grand Procurator (Vice-President), providing leadership during his collegiate years. He also was competing as a member of The Ohio State University lacrosse team. His fraternity experience was shaped by a deep appreciation for the chapter's history and a personal commitment to preserving its future.
Following graduation, John built an accomplished career as a medical equipment and services sales executive with Welch Allyn. Throughout his tenure, he earned numerous awards recognizing exceptional sales performance and market development, ultimately retiring after a highly successful professional career distinguished by integrity, customer relationships, and consistent achievement.
John's greatest impact on Alpha-Sigma has come through his unwavering alumni leadership. He is the Vice President and Director of the Alpha-Sigma of Kappa Sigma Education Foundation and serves on its finance committee. He has helped guide the Foundation's mission of supporting undergraduate members through educational opportunities and leadership development. He was also a significant contributor to the chapter's 2014–2020 capital campaign, helping strengthen Alpha-Sigma's long-term future through strategic investment and alumni engagement.
Demonstrating his commitment to future generations of Brothers, John has a named scholarship, the Hileman Legacy Scholarship, providing meaningful support and encouragement to active chapter members. His philanthropy reflects a belief that investing in young men today strengthens the brotherhood for decades to come.
John possesses a unique perspective on one of the most difficult periods in the chapter's history. Living at 1842 Indianola Avenue during 1999, he witnessed firsthand efforts by alumni members who sought to stabilize a chapter struggling with poor decisions before its eventual closure in 2000. That experience only deepened his resolve to help rebuild and preserve Alpha-Sigma for future generations, making his continued leadership and service all the more meaningful.
Beyond Kappa Sigma, John remains deeply committed to serving others. He actively supports Buckeye Cruise for Cancer and Gracehaven charities in Columbus, participating in the organization's "Over the Edge" fundraising event to benefit youth served through Christian ministries. He also serves as a firearms instructor in Michigan, sharing his knowledge with an emphasis on responsibility, safety, and education.
John Hileman's Hall of Honor induction celebrates a brother whose influence extends far beyond his undergraduate years. Through professional excellence, generous philanthropy, principled leadership, and an unwavering devotion to Alpha-Sigma, he has strengthened the chapter's foundation while helping ensure its future. His legacy stands as an enduring example of Kappa Sigma's ideals in action and of a brother who has continually answered the call to lead, serve, and give back.
