Gary Spahr '62

Gary Spahr was a 1962 initiate through the Alpha-Sigma chapter of Kappa Sigma.  Following college at The Ohio State University, Gary invested himself in a wonderful career (1966-2002) in Sales and Marketing with the Shell Oil Company, 1966 – 2002. He is known to have been a master at building and maintaining customer relationships.

Brother Spahr had tremendous impact on many from the 60’s decade of brotherhood. Most would agree Gary’s greatest contributions to Alpha-Sigma chapter alumni came in two forms.

The first was the founding of the 60's Decade Homecoming Reunion that has lasted for over 25+ years. This also includes a dinners held at various restaurant locations and lunches at the Varsity Club on Homecoming Fridays. The event in 2023 has been transformed and is the foundation of this year’s all-inclusive Alumni Reunion Celebration of Alpha Sigma of Kappa Sigma.

The second was the Gary’s participation in building camaraderie at nearly every Ohio State home football game over two decades. A band of Brothers from the 60s would gather in the south parking lot of the French Field House on Saturdays to share and recount the great days of Ohio State football. Only a well-known tree remains in the area of this gathering, its nickname known only to a few.

The Brotherhood lost a great guy in Brother Spahr when he joined the Chapter Celestial on June 27, 2022.  Gary is survived by his three loving children Molly, Chris and Nick.
